Pin It Blog Hop!

I have thoroughly enjoyed being inspired by all the of talented pincushion makers during this Blog Hop. Thanks so much to our amazing cheerleader Kristen and to Madame Samm for coming up with such wonderfully creative themes for these fun Hops!
Since moving into my new quilting room last May I have had a number of "handy projects" in mind to pretty up some of my tools so I jumped at the chance to upgrade my pincushions. Don't you think that these...
are much more fun (while still being functional) than these?
While I have several decorative pincushions on display and tucked into various drawers and bags these are the ones I actually use on a daily basis. The blue magnetized one is nice and solid and is usually found on my cutting table. The purple wristband keeps me from holding stray pins in my mouth (nasty habit!!), pinning them to my shirt or laying them in odd places. I love having a pincushion on my person as I'm a "move about" quilter... I sew, press and trim/assemble/pin at different workstations.

I found THIS tutorial on my Pinterest Quilting Room Board and got busy. The directions were very easy to follow... I think it look me longer to pick out the fabrics than it did to make it!
Last week I was admiring all of the pincushions made from re-purposed items when I remembered seeing this mini adirondack chair in a box somewhere in my old quilting room so I dug it out. It was unfinished wood so I decided to paint it red to make it stand out on my table. Then I made another cushion since the one for the wristband fit the chair perfectly.

While not magnetized, this pincushion fits my need for something solid that won't tip over or get easily buried under things on my cutting table.
I'd love to make YOU a wristband pincushion! Please leave a comment telling me your favorite color combination and I'll use Mr. Random to select TWO winners at the end of the Blog Hop. Make sure to include an email address if you are a no-reply blogger. I'll include the velcro tabs unattached so that you can fit it perfectly to your wrist.

UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed and the winners have been emailed!

  13. That chair is wonderful! I love the wristband ones too...Never tried that before. When sewing by hand I use one that fits on my thumb. Practical, but the thread does tend to get stuck around the pins for some reason.... I will have to try that wristband one soon (ish)! I love all things pink and green (and seem to incorporate it in all my quilts too.

  80. Your pin cushions are adorable. I had seen some pin cushions in some adorable chairs and had looked for some chairs online and everywhere I looked was sold out - bummer. It seems I'm always behind the times. I'd probably buy them as my kids tell me - when I die they'll have to get rid of my junk. Things come home to bite you - my ex-husband of only 8 months was found dead in his apartment on July 30. It's still up in the air who is going to have to go through his small accumulation of things. His estranged family lives out of state and wants nothing to do with his things and is taking no responsibility for the estate or the bills that are still accumulating. Last week I was contacted that one of his sons has sent the apt complex a letter giving everything to our church. I sent a letter to a pastor to let him know what I had been told and haven't heard anything. I was the first to be contacted by the police chaplain. So, it may come to happen that indeed they do have to get rid of my "treasures." My daughter has no interest in quilting and saves nothing. So, I need to make a quilting/crafting will for them. I have 5 sewing machines, including a treadle my dad converted to electric. How did your hotel happen to be across from IKEA - lol? Some folks are going to be thrilled with the wrist pin cushions - they are bright and cheery. I think the bright and cheery inspired us to sew more. Thanks for participating and being a great inspiration. The pin cushions are adorable. Just from your post, I can tell that you had great joy in making them. I hope to see you soon in more blogs. Your are very creative and generous.

  110. I love your adirondack chair pin cushion. The chair is a beautiful design in itself and you've made yours so useful. I move my pins from my pin "tin" given to me by my grandmother - it's actually an empty plastic men's hair cream container - to my pincushion then move my pin cushion around the room with me, from sewing machine to cutting/pinning table and back again. I have the lid of the "tin", which is nearly as deep as the container itself, in one place and the base in the other so if I forget the pincushion on the other side of the room there are pins and somewhere to put to put those I've removed from my sewing! I was only thinking the other day how much I need another pin cushion!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Love your pin cushions! Thanks for sharing with us! I would love to win the wrist pin cushion. If I won, any colors would be fine, just as long as there was just a little red mixed in. Thanks for the chance to win!!
