Crossroads Blocks in Green

http://superscrappy.blogspot.com

April's color for RSC13 is green - just the color I was hoping for! I can't see much green out my window yet but at least I can sew with it. I made 8 Crossroads blocks in green... click HERE for Connie's tutorial.
Next year I am definitely going to make some monochromatic quilts. Making these blocks is something I look forward to each month and they have really helped to get past my "matchy matchy" tendencies. It's fun to layout the blocks and see which fabrics catch my eye. Often I am surprised!
I think I'm going to have to add green to my short list of favorite colors (yellow, purple, pink AND green).  Over the last 5-6 years green has crept into almost every room in my house. It's a stealth favorite!
I ran across these pictures on my phone last night and thought I'd share them.  A few days before J-Meow and Jax went home from their extended spring break stay I found this unlikely pair cuddled up together.

Doesn't Jax look like he is telling me "Uh huh... I did it!!"
Tucker with a heavy sigh "When did you say he is leaving?" while Jax hides a smirk behind his paw.

I'm linking up to Feline Friday@sarah did it! and ScrapHappy Saturday@soscrappy.

  2. You know...I like looking at what fabric people have in their scraps as much as I like looking at what people are doing with them. I've been following your crossroads blocks...you will have one lovely quilt. You are combining into one quilt, aren't you?

  3. The green blocks look great. I would probably do well to try something like this, too. It would probalby teach me a lot about restraint. Cute kitties.

  4. The more crossroads blocks I see and make, the more I like them. They are perfect for using every color in the scraps box. The rainbow challenge has been good for me. I have a better understanding and love for individual colors now.

  5. Love the green crossroads blocks! Jax does look very pleased with himself. Tucker looks like he is trying to look like he is not enjoying the cuddle. Cute kitties. My grandkitty is staying with us this weekend and she has not gotten this close to my senior cat ... yet ... :) Pat

  7. I like those crossroads blocks. I like how they create an even bigger pattern. But I especially like the whole controlled scrappy look of the color scheme. It isn't an idea that ever occurred to me. One neutral -- white in this case -- and every shade of a single color out there. I mean it should be a no brainer, but it just hit me how great the idea is.

  11. Your Crossroads blocks are looking great Deb!!! I know exactly what you mean about green being a "stealth" favorite. I never thought of it as a real favorite of mine. It works well with other colors, sure, but BLUE has always been my favorite. However, lately I've noticed that I bring home more greens after a trip to the quilt shop, and they have definitely bloomed in my stash. Hmmmmm.......

  13. What a great design your blocks create when laid out together. How pretty it will be with all the colors of the rainbow. I am drawn more and more to monochromatic as well, it makes it easy to throw in whatever you have on hand and know it will work.

  17. I am going to have to cave and make one of these. I just love looking at your blocks every month! I too love the very scrappy monocromatic quilts now and am amazed at how all the fabrics play so nice together - even shades you think don't 'go' together. Lovely quilt in the making.

  21. I saw your Crossroads blocks last month and you were kind enough to tell me where you found the pattern. I made 4 crossroads blocks over the weekend with green for the RSC. I'm making the 9" version. I went back and read your blog where you said you would be making 80 of these blocks and that would be enough for 4 quilts for Project Linus. My question is this, are you making the 9" blocks or the 12" blocks? I am making these for community service also and I was just wondering...thanks for your help! I am enjoying the RSC and working on these scrappy blocks.

  23. Poor Tucker! He couldn't have suffered much if he didn't leave the scene of the snuggle. Does he miss the other cats now that they have gone home? If you took pink off your list we would have the same fav colors (green, yellow and purple, in no particular order)!
