Sunday Agenda

I love the NFL playoffs so my weekend sewing is pretty non existent this time of year.  But, it is the perfect time to page through books/magazines, do some sorting, some cutting and of course some hand sewing. Oh, and I need to give a big whoop whoop to the alma mater of all 3 college graduates in our household - North Dakota State University - for their 3 peat FCS National Championship in football yesterday. Hail the Mighty Bison!

Today my quilting goals look like this:

1. Clear off my cutting table. I've been putting off a tidy up in my quilting room for days and I'm starting to feel a bit grumpy about it.
2.  Trim and attach the binding to Minnesota Hot Dish for some Slow Sunday Stitching during the 2nd game.
3. Pull out my scrap bins and do some sorting. I love the ease of having these large bins right under my cutting surface for quick cleanup. I used to cut all my scraps down into sizes I use often ala Bonnie Hunter's Scrap User's System, but this year I decided to try stashing them, sorting them by color and see how that works for RSC14.
4. I want to cut into these fabrics to restart this UFO I found. I've always admired this cover quilt (the pattern is called Road to Oklahoma) when I've used this book for other projects and had been setting 2.5 strips and 5" charms aside... turns out I'd started making a test block so I'm calling it a UFO and want to get cracking on it. This will be my 3rd quilt from this book.
Since January's RSC14 color is blue I've decided to work on the 24 blocks with the blue chains for the middle of the quilt and the 16 border blocks in shades of blue. I've hesitated to dig too far into my blues for other projects knowing that this one was on my radar so it will be good to get everything cut that I need.
Blue & yellow quilts are my all time favorites and I use these colors in our master bedroom so a few more quilts to decorate with are always welcome!

  2. Road to Oklahoma is one I want to do too. I love patterns that create chains across the quilt.

  4. Minnesota Hot Dish?? I've never heard of that one. Has it been around long as a UFO? I think I see some old blue fabric I used in a quilt long ago! I do love blue and yellow too.

  11. I'm sure everything will fall into place. I usually have a box on the go for the thrift shop that I put fabrics I just know I won't use. Happy stitching this week. Blue and yellow will always be so timeless. Lovely

  12. You can't go wrong with a blue and yellow color scheme - SDSU colors. But even though I'm a loyal Jackrabbit alumni I did cheer for the Bison to win that championship. Very cool.

  13. Minnesota Hot Dish -- one of my favorites (probably MN and IA quilters know that pattern better than quilters outside the Midwest).
Let us know how your new storage system works to keep you organized. I try one method, then another, then another. I think I just need a different house.
Debbie Caffrey came to our LQS a few years ago and I attended her weekend workshop. Her patterns, books, and ideas are great!

  14. Sounds like you had a busy weekend and have plans for a busy week. Funny how messes can make us grumpy, isn't it?

  15. I love that book and it's a great pattern. I had a big mess yesterday and finally took care of it.

  16. Love the blue and yellow beauty! I've seen Debbie Caffrey's books. When I hear "worms" I think of "strings." Speaking of strings, I made several string blocks over the weekend. They sure are addictive! Have fun Deb. Hope you got your table cleared off.

  17. I get a little grumpy too when my sewing room is messy.
Like you blue and yellow is one of my favorite color combos.

  18. What a great pattern! Glad you are starting off the year with a fun scrap busting pattern. Clearing out the sewing room does lead to grumpiness, but having a neat and tidy room (even for a little bit) is always a treat.

  19. This looks clean compared to mine. I spent a few days cleaning to start the new year, but the cleanliness didn't last.

  20. Blue and yellow always look lovely together! I sort my scraps and off cuts by colour too. I've never had the time or inclination to cut them down to a certain size. I do have a separate vin for strips though. I want to make a scrappy strip quilt one day soon - ish!
