Blue is the color of the month for RSC14 - what a great color to kick off a new year of scrappy sewing because I have lots of blue to use!
Angela is not only hosting RSC14 this year but she is also doing a RSC Sampler Series of 6.5" blocks. I've never been drawn to sampler quilts which makes it easy for me to bypass BoMs... I guess my eyes look for patterns in quilts and samplers look like mixed up blocks to me. Just my personal opinion!
But after Angela started posting the cute little blocks I started thinking about them in a different way. Why not sew up some scraps, explore some new blocks and try some some new rulers? So I've made the 1st 4 and I'm really enjoying making them. If I don't like them when they are assembled I can donate the quilt and learn from the process.
I'm also making my blue blocks for Road to Oklahoma and I'm repeating a picture from yesterday's post for those that are following RSC14.
I forgot to include pictures of my scrap sorting assistant in my post the other day. I ended up moving to the floor because that is where everything ended up anyway the minute I turned my back. Her serious little face is pretty hard to resist!
Elsa is getting very adventurous and wants to play more so we have toys stashed on each level and I try to distract her with them. Of course she prefers my toys... lately pens are her target to nudge off tables or counters. Leftover batting strips are also great fun for her.
Here she is sleeping on a drawer of 2.5" strips on my lap. Aren't the markings on her nose cute?
The only time she and Tucker are in tandem is when they are wanting food! The rest of the time he prefers to keep watch from a safe distance. Elsa thinks his tail is her personal play toy which he tolerates pretty well until he gets a teeny claw.
I'm linking up to ScrapHappy Saturday@soscrappy and Feline Friday@sarah did it!.
I've always loved to make things. Join me while I reboot my creativity, create a new quilting room and tackle LOTS of unfinished projects.
I feel the same way about sampler quilts! My second quilt was a sampler quilt but it was composed of six blocks repeated five times so it hung together well. I spent much of my class time in 2013 making sampler blocks. I had intended to learn as much as I could then give the quilt away but I love the fabrics so may end up keeping it. Your blue sampler blocks look lovely. I have a plan for this years RSC so I'll pass on the sampler block this time!
ReplyDeleteYou have a cute little quilt inspector there! Love your Road to Oklahoma!
ReplyDeleteYour feline helpers are both such pretty cats. I love how cats seem to love the quilting process. Mine likes to lie on my ironing board to watch but doesn't play with the fabric as much as he did when hewas younger. But he still rearranges blocks when I lay them out on the floor.
ReplyDeleteI love your kitties...I'm a cat-aholic and also have some furry little helpers. Tucker looks like a big boy (I love pointed cats! Grew up with Himalayans), and Elsa is just too cute for words!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are making the sampler blocks along with me. They are just scraps after all, what is the worst thing that could happen. So far I really like your collection. Hope the rulers are working out for you. I have become such a big fan of them.
ReplyDeleteLove your cute little blue blocks. I'm going to enjoy watching you make these little 6.5" blocks.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt blocks and your cats!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks turned out great. I think you just might have a sampler quilt that you won't want to part with. Cute little kitties!
ReplyDeleteDeb I especially like the sky blue/white you are using in your RSC fabrics. They offer a nice dimension. Can't say which of the kitty pics are my favorite...just glad you keep sharing them!! Ya have to love have a "sewing buddy!!"

ReplyDeleteYour sampler blocks are nice and fresh. I feel the same way about samplers, and I'm wondering how they're al going to come together. I find it really inspirational looking round at what everyone else is doing. Your Road to Oklahoma quilt is nice and fresh too; I've never seen the prairies but I imagine them to be these colours in summer.
ReplyDeleteYour scrappy blue blocks look great. I'm having a lot of fun making these little blocks.
ReplyDeleteLove your Road to Oklahoma. That pattern is on my bucket list and seeing yours makes me think I need to get that one added to the NewFO list for this year or else I'll never make it.
I think samplers give you experience making some blocks you might not otherwise have tried. Love the Road to Oklahoma.
ReplyDeleteYour cats are so pretty!! I've always wanted to trade dogs for cats, but my silly allergies just wont have it. Suppose I'll just have to keep living through other cat owners. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your sampler blocks!!! But your Road to Oklahoma is gorgeous - that's on my "must do one day" list, though I really don't know why I don't just get on with it ;o)
ReplyDeleteYour blog background is really pretty too and goes well with the blue work you've been doing.
Lovely blue blocks. And lovely fabrics.
ReplyDeleteDoes your fabric sorter have a system?
The blocks look great and I'm sure you'll get a lot of scraps used up.
ReplyDeleteHa! Everything about this is my house! I love the Road to OK in scraps! Are you having trouble getting the seams to match up/nest? Twelve blocks in and I've finally got the system down...I think. And my old boy is also enduring the annoyance of a kitten who thinks his tail is a play toy.
ReplyDeleteWow - Elsa is seriously a beautiful kitty :*) Love her coloring and that sweet, sweet face! My Gypsy is getting so old and grumpy, I've almost forgotten what it's like to have a fun and playful kitty in the house :*) Your blue sampler blocks are wonderful! I think you are on the right track to make them and see how you like them as you go along.
