August Finish #1 and a Cowl

It's a great feeling to get August off and running with a Friday Finish... this is Charm Quilt #2 of 5 in my UFO Collection. This one has an alternating layout of dark & light charms and the theme is definitely all boy!

This quilt is my 50th UFO Finish since I started my Countdown on 10/01/2012 with 101 UFOs. 50!!!  I'm basically almost to the peak of my personal Mount Everest of UFOs... one more finish and I'll be descending down UFO Mountain having crossed my halfway point. 50!!! It's kind of mind boggling!
I used the same striped binding from Charm Quilt #1 and quilted it using white Aurifil in walking foot waves. Why change what works? Here is a close up of some of my favorite charms - the fish, the lions and the fire hydrants in wonky rows.
And the tractors, fire trucks and the oh so happy vegetables!
The backing is pieced flannel, I'm sad to be getting near the end of the black & white bird print which was a find at JoAnn's on clearance last winter. This quilt will be donated to Project Linus.
I wanted to include a picture that shows why I have no reason to procrastinate anymore when it comes to basting kid's quilts! Here is my roll of 45" wide Warm and White Batting on the end of my cutting table.  I also have a roll of 90" wide but I like the smaller size for these kids quilts because there are no folds and I can just lay it out and cut the length needed.
505 Spray is one of my favorite notions (this can was ordered online and is evidently the European version) because it has no scent, adheres quickly with a light spray and doesn't gum up my needle.
Since my bum knee got me knitting last weekend I'm also going to link up to On The Needles@Patchwork Times this week in addition to the usual Finishing Parties below. The name of this yarn is Really Big by Bernat and it is aptly named! The pattern is called Jumbo Cable Cowl and is a free pattern that can be found HERE (you may need to create an account to access it). I can tell you that using size 19 needles feels like knitting with stumps! Aren't the colors gorgeous?

  1. You keep cranking them out. I'm sure the new room is a big incentive. ;-) I wish I was halfway thru my list which more than doubles your BTW.

  4. I think you are at the top of the mountain. The best news is that you can't slide back down. Quilting is not like housework - when it is done it is for good. I hope your slide down is just as easy as your climb up.

  8. That is such a fun quilt! I'm sure that whoever receives it will love it. Congrats on a great finish.

Also, congrats on making it to your half-way point of UFO's! Once I make it to the half-way point, I know I can make it to the finish because it's all down-hill from there for me. You can do it!

    Thanks for linking up!

  9. Love the stripey binding on this. And the big roll of batting. I just finished my first one--I never thought I'd be able to say that.
