I am having so much fun making blocks for this challenge! Here are my purple Crossroads blocks for February. I ended up making 11 of them and wouldn't be surprised if I end up making more blocks at the end of the year for an all purple quilt.
I used all shades of purple from blue/violet to pink/purple. I was really amazed by the variety I had in my stash of 5" charms. A quick session with the rotary cutter and I had 2.5" x 4.5" pieces ready to sew.
I think these blocks create such an interesting layout. They go together quickly and there is only one seam to match but they look much more complex don't you think?
I just started dropping them on the floor as I made them and it was hard to stop when I ran out of purple.
I also got started on another QAL this week.
Threadbias is doing a monthly Sew Along of projects from the book "Pretty in Patchwork: Holidays". Since I was lucky enough to win a copy of the book during the December giveaways I thought I'd join in. January got away from me a bit and the project wasn't one of my favorites, but February's project is a Reverse Applique Patchwork Pillow. I'm starting with a heart pillow for Valentine's Day and I'm going to use this for my February NewFO Challenge project.
I came across a stack of 5" charms that I had been setting aside for a someday project and picked out 13 charms to cut into 2.5" pieces for the patchwork. Once this is finished it will be quilted, then the background fabric will be sewn over the top in a heart shape and then I'll cut around the inside of the stitching to remove the background fabric and reveal the patchwork heart. Confused? I'll post more pics as I work on it this week.
I'm linking up to Scrap Happy Saturday and can't wait to see what everyone else is making with purple!
I've always loved to make things. Join me while I reboot my creativity, create a new quilting room and tackle LOTS of unfinished projects.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Purpiliscious!
ReplyDeleteOh your Crossroads blocks look yummy!!! I didn't make that many, but I sure could have, they were so fun to sew up!
ReplyDeleteYum! I think these purples blocks want to be their own quilt!
ReplyDeleteAs a single block Crossroads doesn't look too exciting...but they sure make a WOW quilt when laid out together. And since I love Valentines and Valentine fabrics I'm anxious to see how your pillow turns out. So far..so good.
ReplyDeleteYour Crossroads blocks are fantastic! And, yes it does look complicated when layed out. In fact, it took me a bit to find the block outline.
ReplyDeletePurple Crossroad blocks look great, a whole purple quilt would be nice, and the beginning of the Valentines day pillow is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty purple blocks. It does look like a fun layout to play around with.
ReplyDeleteI am new to your blog and I have been reading your posts. Your quilts are just beautiful. Very inspiring. I am your newest followers.

I love the secondary pattern that is created by those pretty purple blocks!
ReplyDeleteI too am making these crossroads, I love how fast they go together and that "only one seam to match" is the best part of it!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I've fallen in love with purple this month. I agree there is such a variation in this colour and they all look fabulous together. Love your cross roads project and I'm so intrigued to see how your heart pillow turns out. Ellyx
ReplyDeleteI love your crossroads and think a purple quilt would be wonderful. I'm curious on how you are going to do the pillow and look forward to seeing it come together.
