Scrap Basket Sunday

What used to be UFO Sunday for me is now Scrap Basket Sunday, Slow Stitching Sunday AND Sunday Stash. And it is all good... because working on UFOs has become a habit by now. Sunday should be a special sewing day to play with scraps or relax with handwork. Having a new linkup to see what other quilters are doing with their scraps is the icing on the cake!
Scrap Basket Sunday
Here is a pic of Strip Stacks from my WIP Wednesday post showing my pull of blues & browns from my 2.5" strip drawers.
So far I have finished 3 blocks. I'm using one of the ivory/cream shades of Bella for background from my stash.
Here are some of the spare parts ready for today's sewing. I'm really liking the blue/brown color combination in this pattern.
I've had a "mystery baggie" of scrappy strips sewed together and pressed that I've yet to figure how where I was going with them. Not a clue!

I came across them again on Friday, measured them and guess what? They are just the right size for Strip Stacks. Yesterday while watching March Madness I got busy with Mr. Ripper as they were sewed together along the 5.5" side. The pile next to my thread bucket (thank you Target Dollar Section!) have been separated and of course I had lay out a sample block. This will be a perfect leader/ender project and eventually Extra Scrappy Strip Stacks!
How's that for Slow Sunday Unstitching?
I've decided that Sunday Stash Reports aren't my thing. I love my stash and am not actively trying to shrink it or grow it. But I will share some stash enhancements from time to time. I've blogged before about my love for Thousands of Bolts and how I keep a wish list of fabrics until I have enough to stuff a Priority Mailing box full. Their minimum cut is one yard, and when I find fabrics I love I go back for more.

I needed a bit of purple and light green for my stash and I love the diagonal grid prints.
I was really low on browns (might need a few of these for Strip Stacks) and I couldn't resist the cute orange print.
I've used the red polka dot as an accent in 3 projects and LOVE it!  These fabrics are all re-buys of 2-3 yards for the LOVE it category.
 My furry photo bomber!
My desktop computer bit the dust this week which is never a fun thing and oh so time consuming. The hard drive did come back to semi-life for one day (Happy Dance!!!) so I was able to get the important data offloaded... Now it's all sitting up in the "Cloud" somewhere until my new machine arrives. And, I will be backing up to the Cloud on a REGULAR basis going forward. I'm not loving editing photos and blogging on my lap top much!

I'm linking up to Scrap Basket Sunday@Kim's Big Quilting Adventure, Slow Stitching Sunday@Kathy's Quilts and Sunday Stash@Finding Fifth.

  1. it is always interesting to see what others add to their stash and keep on hand for regular use. I also have a lot of reds and blacks, but realized looking at your selections that I rarely ever pick up browns. I'm not sure why because I do love the look when paired with blues, with pinks, and with any fall color combinations. HMMM - makes me start thinking.

  2. Love your fabrics. It always takes me so long to make things because I have a problem with cutting into my stash. I love to see it all folded on my shelves.

  5. Looks like a fun quilt to make. Playing in fabric and making groupings that work is one of my favorite parts of the process! My kitty photo bombs a lot, too. ;-)

Sorry that your hand work was UNstitching, but the blocks will be beautiful in the end.
    Thanks for linking up!

  7. I have that pattern too - love what you are doing with it! My partner looked over my shoulder and said "colors of the season" (he learned blue & brown was a combo about oh 4 years ago LOL)

  8. Your brown and blue strip blocks are wonderful, as are your additions to your stash. I love that 1000s of Bolts guy too! I'll look forward to seeing your blocks as they come along.

  10. You made some great choices. Now I am off looking for it. I am in need of some solids, so I see an order this week. Come to think of it, I received an order from them last week. I am so bad!

  12. The blue and brown look so happy together. Looks like you have plenty of new fabric to replace what you have managed to use up.

  13. Love your stash enhancements. So neat to see what are 'go to' fabrics for other quilters. Your blue/brown blocks are really pretty.

  14. I like the blue and brown together, it looks great in your project. I am thinking that I must find some polka dots to add to my stash even without a project in mind for them.

  17. I absolutely love my iPad but have found it easier to read blogs and leave comments if I use my desktop so I know a little of how you feel (note to self: back up!!)

Love, love, love the strip stacks -- thanks for another great idea to add to my "someday list". and thanks, too, for the link to Scrap Basket Sunday (nearly all my quilts are scrappy but it's fun to see what others do!)

  18. that's a really great pattern and a great way to use up some scraps. I may give this one a try as it looks like it would go together quickly. Love your color combo and the more scrappy one as well.

  19. I hear you! I stopped doing Stash Reports this year too and simply do "Stash Enhancement" reports. I love the freedom! Like you, I enjoy adding fabrics, and I didn't like that I somehow felt guilty whenever I reported an add. And I can't believe you are working on Strip Stacks! I am too! I had not seen the pattern before I took the class at Pigeon Forge a couple weeks ago. Mine's batiks, with a bright blue background and warm oranges, reds, yellows for the bricks. Love your colors!!!!!

  22. I love the term "furry photo bomber" as my Midgie loves to do that too. Your strip stacks look great - makes me think of western designs for some reason.
