March in Review

Who would think that a month of no finishes and VERY little sewing would feel... well... GREAT? That would be me thanks to this challenge I joined mid March.

I have cleared out closets, cabinets, drawers and our storage room. Places that caused many guilty feelings about being unable to make decisions or get on top of things. I can't tell you how many bags of shredded paper have left my home. Or articles of clothing that I never wear. Or VCR tapes when we haven't had a VCR in years. So much stuff!
I've essentially doing in 40 days what I thought would take the whole year. And it feels wonderful to know EXACTLY what I have and where it is. And I'm a little lighter physically too.
Moving a few gems each Sunday when I weigh in! It's surprising how many steps I get in while sorting through stuff and finding a better home for it. Up and down the stairs many times a day with a box or bag in my hand.
My quilting room is calling my name and now that I'm almost done with our indoor spaces I'm ready to sew. I think it's time to start real life again... where you do a bit of this and a bit of that. And wait for spring to arrive so I can declutter our garages & shed.

Happy April everyone! I can't wait to mess up this room.

  1. Congratulations on a job well done--clearing the house, clearing your mind, reducing complications and clutter. I'm so envious and am encouraged to try it myself some day. I would guess that condensing the simplifying into a 40-day span, rather than letting it stretch out longer, was an advantage in decision making and efficiency. Again, well done !!

  5. What a great idea - I think I will do the same. I have two storage lockers FULL of stuff that doesn't fit in our flat so I think it is high time to have a clear out! Well done you!

  6. I am very impressed with how much you managed to purge. Makes my 3 bags of clothes look pretty small, but it is a start.

  7. Just took 3 bags of craft and household to thrift store yesterday and next week will deliver 3 boxes of fabric for donations. 6 LARGE boxes of craft and household items priced and ready for a summer garage sale! 2 boxes of quilting books looking for new homes. Funny how our tastes change and the "stuff" remains the same.

  8. What an amazing month. Sounds like you did it even faster than 40 days. Have fun working in your sewing room. When everything has a place it isn't as messy. :D

  10. Good for you! I just cleaned out the hall closet and the drawers in the bathroom and tossed an entire trash bag full of items we no longer use or that are expired. It felt great! I've got purple heart scheduled to pick up on Saturday so the rest of the week I will be collecting items for them. Thanks for the inspiration!

  16. Awesomeness. I love the sticker chart you kept. I did this maybe 17 years ago and it was so emotionally cleansing in addition to house-cleansing! After another 15 years and the raising of our 3 kids, it was time to purge again when we moved cross-country. Now that we've been settled in this house for 18 months, I feel a siren call to go through the lingering few moving boxes and reevaluate the collections of things on the garage shelves that we never assigned a place for. I'm thinking this is an awesome activity for June or July when the writing of my thesis is finished and in the hands of the committee members!
