Wierd Wednesday

Regular readers of my blog know I was expecting a very special delivery yesterday. All day long my doorbell never rang. At 4:00 my husband came home from school and said there's a box on the front porch.  A teeny box.
A teeny box containing 100 sewing machine needles for my invisible Juki F600. I'm not going to write about what happened over the next hour (yet) but it included several phone calls, disbelief, anger and horrible customer service.

After a glass of wine to calm down, I dug out my huge string bin (21" x 17") for some much needed quilt therapy. It was so fun just to poke around inside this box that hasn't been opened in over 3 years.
A bin of triangles and squares to use for corners.
A note to self about string lengths. I really need to make a habit of doing this more!  Little things that one would think I'd remember next time but of course I never do.
I make string blocks to donate to Heartstrings Quilt Project. Over the New Years weekend they had a sew-in using purple center strings instead of the usual red or blue. Since I had company I only got a few blocks done at that time using my "fresh" strings so am playing catch-up. Here are my 10" muslin backing squares and center strings ready to sew.
I turn around to find Tucker doing some overtime string testing.
Some blocks in progress.
Some one is making it hard for me to get much out of the bin!
About 9:00 last night our son started having terrible stomach pain. After a sleepless night I was able to get him into the clinic 1st thing this morning. We have to wait it out to see if it is just a very bad stomach ache or if the pain moves to his right side we'll be heading to the ER for a likely appendectomy. Fortunately the anti-nausea med kicked in immediately and he has been sleeping for the last hour.

Isn't it amazing how life quickly reminds you of what is really important? And, since I'm unable to hug and cuddle a 17 year old... I guess I'll be sewing more string blocks today in between trips downstairs to check on him.

I'm linking up to WIP Wednesday@Freshly Pieced.

  2. I hope your son feels better soon! I have a little one at home today sick as well. It's the season for it!!! How nice of Tucker to help you with the string quilt :)

  3. Hope your son feels better and doesn't have a bad appendix. And how frustrating that your order was messed up and you got poor customer service.

I'm also plugging away on Heart Strings blocks, but mine have a black center strip. I like that purple better!

  4. Oh Deb, sounds like your day never ended! Glad you had your box of strips to play with. Fingers crossed that your son will respond well to the medication. Don't worry...my 24-year old didn't hug at 17, but he sure does now! Take care...

  5. Oh no! I hope he's okay! My brother had to have an emergency appendectomy when he was 9.

Hope you get your order worked out

  10. Hey cute little Tucker! Oooh, the sewing machine situation sounds majorly annoying - good luck with both that and your son feeling better soon!

  11. Oh my, i do hope your boy feels better soon. It is hard to comfort a grown son....I resorted to sewing easy blocks too (a few years back my oldest broke his collar bone).

  12. Oh no, horrible customer service is the worst. On one hand, I feel bad for the people at the other end of the line because I know they have to deal with unhappy people all day; on the other hand, I want whatever is wrong to be fixed.

  13. Thanks for bringing Tucker to Feline Friday! He is a beauty and he seems quite talented at making the strings fit back in to that box. LOL. TGIF!

  15. Tucker is gorgeous! I actually have some fabric I saw in your string bin, I cut it up in my nieces quilt, and you would never know it was snowmen! I hate it when they don't ring the doorbell when they drop off packages. I have started looking on the porch every hour when ecpecting a package, just in case!

  16. Oh! What a sweet 'scrap warmer' you have! And how considerate -- your hands will never get cold while you're fishing through your strips, as long as Tucker is on the job! :)
