The days of happily hand sewing binding while watching football are winding down. Both teams I was rooting for won yesterday so let's see what today brings. Actually I only was cheering for Baltimore because I have them in our pool (sorry Peyton Manning!).
I'm hoping to finish up Shabby Heart today. I am so enjoying being draped in this pretty UFO.
This year I've decided to track my stash activity. I'm not overly obsessive about my stash at the moment, as in trying to bust it or trying to build it. I'm happy to have it, quite frankly, with the price of fabric these days! I try to take advantage of online sales when I can since I live in a rural area. My LQS is wonderful for the more traditional fabrics but not so great for newer lines.
I have found that some of my fabric tastes have changed over the 3 years I wasn't quilting. I'm really into black & white prints now to pair up with my brights for Project Linus quilts so have been adding those. The modern fabrics are also calling my name (not the solids so much). I'm crazy about Kate Spain so am trying to add what I can find of her older lines.
I'm really most interested in seeing the movement of fabric in and out as opposed to the end result I guess, but I'm going to commit to a year of tracking and see. A 10 yard bolt of muslin for string blocks and a year end clearance parcel arrived this week to plump up my numbers. I'm not counting fabric used until the project is complete - more motivation to finish!
Used this Week: 5.5 yards
Used year to Date: 13.5 yards
Added this Week: 22 yards
Added Year to Date: 22 yards
Net Used for 2013: -8.5 yards

I've always loved to make things. Join me while I reboot my creativity, create a new quilting room and tackle LOTS of unfinished projects.
Good numbers for the start of the year. Lovely quilt you're binding. I'll have to read previous posts to get more looks at it. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous project to enjoy binding! I'd be taking my time and loving every stitch...so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to SLow Sunday Stitching!
Ah, yes, i know the "glad to havee a stash" feeling. Fortunately, most of mine is donated fabric to the quilting group I have belonged to since September 2011 when i was still a newbie quilter. i use the fabric to make quilts which are then donated, mostly to hospitals but also to victims of flood or fire. Fabric in Australia is really expensive. At the chain store, homespun is $6.99 a metre (a better quality homespun at the LQS is $14.99 a metre. Blenders at the chain store are $9.99, and prints are between $12.99 and $19.99 at the chain store. Fabric starts at $24.99 in the LQS! To be a quilter here, one has to be really committed as even a cot size quilt can be $100+!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty quilt! I love binding - while I am stitching the binding down I take the time to enjoy my quilt especially if I am sending it off to someone else.
ReplyDeleteAh, at the binding stage. Almost finished. I'm ready to begin stitching a binding on tomorrow too.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting looks great. A very pretty quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm also happy to have my stash, as good fabric prices continue to rise. How brave you are to actually post your bought and used # of yards. I may keep a private list, just for curiosity. I'm actively trying to reduce my stash, but I've already fallen off the wagon. Clearance sales got me.
Good luck finding some the older Kate Spain lines. She's such a popular designer.
I love the colors of the quilt you are sewing the binding on. I know exactly what you mean about not being in love with the older fabric in your stash. Times change, who knows what we will be in love with in 10 years?
ReplyDeleteI love the binding stage. Just around the corner from the finish line. Beautiful quilt and quilting!
ReplyDeleteLove the swirl quilting. Seems like a few of us are working on bindings today. Fun.
ReplyDeleteYou echo what I've been feeling these last few years - changing colors and styles, and I also love binding in front of the tv. Your quilting stitches are amazing - I so wish I could do as well! Also that fabric!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty quilt! It's interesting to see your fabric calculations. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to record mine, I think I may buy a lot more than I use.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt you are binding. Could you tell us what pattern it is? Thank You Bonnie
