So Much to Share

Now that I've received my first "You haven't been blogging - is everything OK" series of emails (thank you ladies for caring enough to check in with me!) I decided I'd better find a quiet moment and do some writing.

My life outside of quilting is FULL right now. So much has happened and more is on the horizon... and for a person who has lost the art of multi-tasking this means I am scattered all over the place. But, just for this summer, I am trying hard to embrace this uncomfortable feeling. Why? Because by mid August life will suddenly shift back to a new normal.

Over the last 4 weeks our daughter got engaged, my husband and I spent a week in Vegas with 3 other couples, I had a nasty skin infection on my foot that was treated 5 times by 4 doctors in 2 cities, we hosted our future in-laws over the 4th and summer sort of arrived. Our son started his first job and we have had lots of college related tasks on our agenda.  Eye, dental and medical checkups for everyone. Plus normal life!

In early August our daughter and her fiance are moving to Columbus, OH where he will be attending grad school in hospital administration at Ohio State and she will be going to nursing school. A week after I return from helping them move we will be loading up a vehicle to take our son to Rochester, NY where he still start college at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology).

Since I've been spoiled by having my kids at home or 2 hours away with lots of visits this is going to be very new and different. And while I am over the moon excited about seeing them challenge themselves with new opportunities and proud to bursting of who they are becoming my eyes are getting a bit wet as I write this post. It feels very real right now.

So... I WILL be getting back to quilting all too soon because we all know that creative therapy works wonders in times of change. And I do hope to get back in the habit of blogging and will try to share more about my non quilting life. And since I can't have a post without a picture I'll leave you with a pic of Elsa in her favorite daytime napping spot. Yes, she has her own quilt!
I will also thank you in advance for your support as I will need it. Shall we say that the UFO Countdown will be on the move again this fall? I think so.

  1. My goodness, that's a lot of change! Good luck to your children, and for you to get used to the new normal. And Elsa wants her tummy rubbed! (CC has grown into a giantess...10.5 pounds at ten months old. No longer an adorable kitten!)

  2. It was good to see your post this morning and you really have had a full summer with more to come. I love your graphic with "embrace change". That should have been my motto 2 summers ago when my husband quit his job and started a new business just when I was considering retirement. Needless to say, I haven't retired yet, but we are surviving that change.

Enjoy these new adventures with your kids! BTW - wedding dress shopping with your daughter is loads of fun!

  3. Enjoy it all! Exciting times ahead and definitely different. My 22 year old has been living at home for the last 7 months while working a co-op position and will move again at the end of August. I have loved having him and am going to miss him and excited for him too! So many emotions. Glad to see that things are good and busy!

  4. Been there done that! I hear and feel your pain! My girls are scattered all over Canada...and it doesn't get any easier! I am going to hate it even more when they get married and start having babies...just NOT going to think about THAT one!! Hopefully your college kids will move home when they are finished...fingers are crossed!!

  5. Wow, what a busy month you've had!
I know how you feel about having kids far away. We are lucky to have our younger son right now driving from Las Vegas, where he has been living and working for 1 1/2 years, to the Minneapolis area to go to school. Our daughter and older son and their families also live fairly close to us. It will be nice t- have all three close by.

  8. You definitely have a full "dance card"!!!! Hopefully the disagreeable portions are behind and only the exciting new adventure challenges lie before you! "Change" has no value unless we assign it one so, I guess, it's up to you to decide whether these are positive or negative changes!!!! Hugs and blessings.........................

  9. I understand....and I am glad you are embracing the changes rather than fighting them. That is what life is all about....how we adjust and accept what comes our way. You will be able to focus on your projects in a few months....until then, go with the flow. Awaiting your return :)

  11. So glad to hear from you! I'm glad that you're okay. NOTHING stays the same. I find it a process to learn to adjust to change. I'm trying to learn to relax and go with it.

  12. Empty nest is a tough one - especially since we're so geared for motherhood! I cried for days and couldn't imagine what I could have done to deserve this. A friend reminded me I had raised our girls to be independent strong young women...and then I didn't want them to fly! That reality really helped me! Now I still think of them often each day but I can't really imagine them at home!! My sewing and fabric areas have taken over their rooms!

  13. Rosemary B here:
Good thing Elsa isn't going anywhere!
Deb, you have been busy but it has been fun.
I know the empty nest. I know the college. I have two wonderful sons now! :-)
    I adore them
With change it is always better. Just stay on the raft and float.
You will really enjoy this, I know it. Plus, you become very good at email and phone correspondence <3

  14. Well, I hear you. I have been having a busy time in my life too. Not visiting blogs or doing much sewing or blogging myself. I will be glad when my life gets back to normal too.
Congrats to your kids. Glad your foot is doing better. Have a great summer.

  15. So glad that your changes are mostly happy ones and that you are okay. I love the quote from Socrates, but the picture of Miss Elsa taking her nap is a study in stress-reduction, too! Who couldn't help but smile at that?
